On Saturday 10th November, cadets and staff from 5F (Northampton) Sqn helped the local Royal British Legion with their Poppy Appeal short Service of Remembrance at the Weston Favell Shopping Centre in Northampton. Cdt Cpl M. Broadbent recited the Act of Homage before ‘Last Post ‘was played by CI. Dawn Upton.

Situated in the upper mall, near to the exit and checkouts of a (very) large supermarket the challenge was to ensure all could hear and were aware of the 2 minutes silence to follow.
Playing ‘Last Post’ loud, proud and note perfect, CI Upton not only silenced the tills, checkouts and people within the supermarket but throughout the entire shopping centre. The 2 minute silence that followed was probably the best observed silence at this venue for several years. CI Upton then played ‘Rouse’ to mark the end of the silence.

Several shoppers later asked if it had been a recording and were very impressed to find it was indeed played ‘live’!
