Coalville Air Cadet Presentation and Enrolment Night

Cadets from 1188 (Coalville) Squadron Air Training Corps received certificates and awards at their annual Presentation Night.
This year the presentation night coincided with the squadron’s 68th anniversary. Every year the hard work of the cadets is recognised with awards at the presentation night and this year was no exception. The trophies and certificates were presented to the cadets, in front of their families by Police Inspector Chris Brown, the NW Leics Local Policing Unit Commander, Cllr Mrs Alison Smith Chairman of NW Leicestershire and Flight Lieutenant Clive Williams RAF VR(T) the squadron’s commanding officer.
There were certificates for passing air cadet exams, gaining BTEC awards, representing the Wing (made up of 29 squadrons) at swimming, athletics, hockey, cross country, Drill Instruction, radio operator certificates, Heart Start First Air Certificates, Bronze National Navigation Awards, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and learning to handle a glider.
The trophies awarded were:-
RAF Association (RAFA) Certificate of Appreciation – Cadet (Cdt) Hurst and Corporeal (Cpl) Hildreth.
RAFA Cup – Cdt Woolhouse
Community Award – Cdt Horton
Vin Shepherd Cup for Best Attendance – Cdt Watson (for the second year running.)
Best Sports Cadet – Cdt Holden
John Bancroft Endeavour Trophy – Cdt Hurst
Most Enterprising Cadet – Sergeant (Sgt) Peat (for the second year running.)
Most Promising New Cadet – Cdt Culley
Squadron Shooting Award – Cpl Vincent
Hammond Trophy for Adventure Training – Cdt Thompson

There was also an enrolment Ceremony with the Squadron Padre. Rev Martin Joss enrolled ten new cadets, J Clarke, C Webster, J Cave, J Reeve, M Murray, J Trouve, A Dando, G Kerwell, R Holden and G Tongue, The new cadets solemnly promised on their honour to serve their unit loyally and to be faithful to their obligations as a member of the Air Training Corps, to be a good citizen and do their duty to God, the Queen, Country and Flag.

The Commanding Officer Flight Lieutenant Clive Williams RAF VR (T) also promoted nine cadets.
Cadets T Priestnall, S Moore, M Hammond and S Meade were all promoted to the rank of Corporal.
Corporals E Hill and D Vincent were promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Sergeants M Sharlot and M Wright were promoted to the rank of Flight Sergeant and Flight Sergeant C Moore was promoted to the highest cadet rank, Cadet Warrant Officer.
Flight Lieutenant Clive Williams RAF VR (T) said “ It was an enjoyable night, it is very important to recognise the achievements of the cadets and for their families to be able to show their support for them. I was very pleased that Inspector Brown was able to join us again this year and it was good that councillor Smith was able to attend too. The squadron has benefited from a council grant this year to refurbish the squadron’s radios.”
