Coalville Air Cadet Presentation Night

Last Thursday night cadets from 1188 (Coalville) Squadron Air Training Corps received certificates and awards at their annual Presentation Night.

Every year the hard work of the cadets is recognised with awards at the presentation night and this year was no exception. The trophies and certificates were presented to the cadets by The Chairman of NW Leicestershire Council, Councillor Annette Bridges and Police Inspector Chris Brown, the NW Leicestershire Local Policing Unit Commander.
There were certificates for passing air cadet exams, representing the Wing at sport, swimming proficiency and becoming radio operators. There were also promotions.

The trophies awarded were:-
Community Award – Cdt Woolhouse
Vin Shepherd Cup for Best Attendance – Sgt Brearley
Best Sports Cadet – Cpl Perera
John Bancroft Endeavour Trophy – Cdt K Moore
Shooting Award – Sgt Cox
RAFA Cup, Cadet of the Year – Cdt Murray
Sharlot- Hammond Adventure Training Trophy – Cpl Hammond
Most Enterprising Cadet – Sgt Cox
Most Promising New Cadet – Cdt Eyres

This year for the first time the Leon Poxon Memorial Trophy was awarded. Leon Poxon was a cadet at the squadron and tragically killed last year in a road accident. He was an excellent shot and the trophy was awarded to the best shot on the squadron air rifle range. It was awarded to Cadet A Priestnall.

The Commanding Officer Flying Officer Rod Dring RAF VR (T) also promoted three cadets. Cadets A Priestnall, R Watson and Thompson were all promoted to the rank of Cadet Corporal.

Police Inspector Chris Brown said, ” I enjoyed the evening and was impressed by the achievements of the cadets, they are a really good group of young people”.

Flying Officer Rod Dring RAF VR (T) said “ this is the first presentation evening I have hosted as the commanding officer and I am very proud of the cadets. We have had a good year and I am expecting great things in the coming year.”
