Five Cadets from 126 (City of Derby) Squadron are celebrating their success in the Stanton Rifle Club Shooting Competition, where they have achieved a clean sweep of trophies.
The Squadron team, led by Flight Sergeant Adam Fraczek, competed against shooting teams from the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire area to win the overall competition for the 2nd year. The competition has been running for 22 years although this is only the 2nd year that the Squadron has taken part. Adult Sergeant Ben Hirst, the team coach, said, “the Cadets enjoyed taking part in this competition. It’s great to come to an established competition and win for 2 consecutive years”.
As well as winning the overall trophy, the individual team members performed extremely well. Corporal Taizya Marsh was the top shot with 95 points. Corporal Charlotte Chetwyn came a very close second with 94 points. Flight Sergeant Fraczek came third and Cadets Southall and Bray came joint fourth. Flight Sergeant Fraczek said, “it is amazing that the team took the top 5 positions.”
The Squadron’s total score for the evening was 368 out of 400. A team from Long Eaton came second, but were 179 points behind the hot shots from Derby.
Adult Sergeant Hirst said, “the team did a fantastic job, especially considering that they are a relatively young team. Their enthusiasm and commitment to the shooting team should be commended.”
