Monday 21 June saw a visit to 1936 SQN from the Royal Air Force Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) 5131 Squadron which is based at RAF WITTERING.
WO Gary Mitchell, also currently the Air Cadet Liaison Officer at RAF Wittering attended with response vehicle, mini wheelbarrow and several examples of ordinance, many of which are being used against our forces in Afghanistan. These range from traditional land mines to amended drinks cans.

During an excellent presentation the cadets were informed that apart from deployments overseas the EOD squadron maintains a commitment to provide support to the civilian authorities for reported suspect packages.
Apart from listening to the presentation, cadets were permitted to try on the helmet and body armour, handle exhibits and training aids, and shown how to drive the robot wheelbarrow.

The visit was also of interest to WO Mitchell as he last attended RAF Newton in 1981 to attend a Blood Hound Missile training course!
