Cadets and staff of 1F (City of Leicester) and 2502 (Hamilton) Squadron joined forces to take part in the Knighton Park Family Fun Day on Sunday 5th September.
Throughout the day, thousands of people passed through the park amazed by the dog displays, choir and inflatable laser quest game. However, members of the public could not keep their eyes off of the large Air Cadet Plot in the corner of the field because throughout the day members of the public were entertained by camouflage demonstrations around the field from some of the cadets, young children had great fun trying on the flying helmet and prospective cadets got the chance to ask questions to current cadets. Also, members of the public too great delight in trying to complete the CWOs challenge, an almost impossible feat involving one knot and a shoelace – which nobody managed to successfully complete, all except the CWO himself!
The 14 cadets present not only recruited potential cadets but sold raffle tickets and collected money for the RAF Association. RAF Association flags and stickers were given out as the cadets walked about between the members of the public.
This is the second time that 1F and 2502 Squadron have joined together to recruit. Only a couple of weeks ago, they joined forces to spread the word about the Air cadets at the Evington Village Fete. Both squadrons look forward to working more with each other in the future at these great community events.
1Fs Recruitment I/C, Cadet Warrant Officer Daniel McGlynn commented “It is great to see the cadets out and about with members of the public. It’s a super way for the local community to get to see the Air Cadets in action and events like these always attract a lot of interest from potential cadets. I was really impressed by the way that the cadets worked so hard throughout the day and as always – the cadets got no end of praise about their smartness and politeness from a variety of people.”
