The cadets have been busy fund raising for the squadron recently. Two bag packs and providing the manpower for a national rowing competition at Holme Pierrepont raised more than £1200. This money will prove invaluable in helping with the running costs of the squadron owned mini-bus as well as going towards the purchase of equipment.
The two bag packs were done a couple of days apart at local supermarkets with whom we have developed close relationships. The cadets worked really hard and ensured that all the customers they came into contact with enjoyed the experience of having their bags packed by Beeston cadets.
At Holme Pierrepont the cadets donned waterproofs and life vests as they went out onto the water to man the stake boats. This is a key role as they have to ensure that all the competitors start off from the same start position and so need to listen and respond promptly to instructions from the race umpires.
Cadets were also present in “best blues” to assist at the medal ceremony and to also take down the Union Flag at the end of the competition.
1359 have been involved in stake boating for some years now and the organisers are always very impressed with the calibre of the cadets who turn up to help.
The staff and committee of 1359 would like to thank all those cadets who gave up their time to attend these events.
