1101 Kettering Royal Air Force Air Cadet Squadron recently held their annual inspection evening, with Squadron Leader Mayoh-Smith and Squadron Leader Utting from South and East Midlands Wing Headquarters staff carrying out the squadron’s inspection.
Every year the squadron undergoes an inspection which includes a health and safety audit, grounds and facilities inspection, systems and paperwork inspection as well as inspections of the squadron training facilities and training program.
The squadron has a total of 58 cadets and 22 staff. Out of these, 44 cadets and 18 staff took part in the inspection. At the end of the evening a selection of certificates and presentation where made including 3 Wing Sporting Blue patches for Sgt T Bennett, Cdt J Barnes and Cdt J Lovell, 2 Activity First Aid badges for Cdt Stanton and Sgt Bennett plus 4 Radio Communicators Badges for Cdt Pettit, Sgt Perkins, Sgt Bennett and Cpl Waterfield.
Flight Lieutenant Guy Slack said “Overall, the inspection went well but we do have some improvements to make. However the two Squadron Leaders were pleased with how we’re performing so I am happy with that. I am very proud of the effort made by all cadets, which has resulted in the squadron being placed 8th out of 29 squadrons in the South and East Midlands Wing in 2009. We’re looking forward to beating that for 2010!”
The squadron is currently recruiting young people aged between 13 and 17 and is open Monday and Wednesday evening from 7.15pm to 9pm. The next intake night will be Monday, 9th May. The unit is also looking to recruit fundraisers, committee members and sponsors to assist with providing further training opportunities for the young people of the Kettering area.
