Cadets and Staff from 2502 (Hamilton) and 1947 (Birstall) Air Training Corps attended a service held at Leicester Cathedral to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of Victory in Japan.
Even though Britain was awash with Celebration in May 1945 after Victory in Europe, thousands of miles away British Armed Forces were still fighting the Far East. On the 15th August 1945 Japan surrendered only days after the atomic bombs were dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
This was marked by a service attended by The Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire Jennifer, Lady Gretton and The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Ted Cassidy MBE. An extract of the Kings Speech given on VJ Day in 1945 was read and prays for the victims of the atomic bomb at Hiroshima we given.
The service ended with an Act of Remembrance for the British and Commonwealth Forces who did not return from World War Two.
