Letter from 2229 Squadron Padre

Article posted: Dec 08, 2009 by Sqn Ldr Mayoh-Smith

Hello All,

“What a great bunch of youngsters. They are so willing and helpful.” This is just one of the many comments made this weekend following our Christmas Fayre, and, on behalf of the Church, a very big “THANK YOU” to all who have given up their time to help us.
On Thursday 26th November, the Squadron arrived at the Church Hall for a door to door leaflet drop all around the Parish, advertising our Christmas Fayre and Services.
It really is quite a daunting task, but, under the excellent and very professional direction of Warrant Officer Mark Butler, and assistance of several chauffeurs! The numerous leaflets were duly taken out by the cadets who worked together in groups of three and four. As a Church, we would really struggle to deliver the leaflets without your help. So, thank you all for fulfilling this enormous task so willingly.
On Saturday 5th December, from 09.30 to about 1630 hours, the following turned up to help at our Christmas Fayre:
CI Baguley
CI Peacock
CI Clark
SGT Smeeton
SGT Severn
CPL Cherry
CPL Squires
CPL Townsend (F)
CDT Pearson
CDT Passi
CDT Townsend (M)
CDT Dring
CDT Arme
CDT Essex
An impressive turn out especially as the Dining-In Night had been held the previous evening.
Our thanks cannot adequately be expressed to each of the above who worked so hard, helping to set up stalls, carry endless boxes from the store room to the respective stalls, man stalls and help clear everything away at the end of the afternoon, helping the Church to raise a greatly needed £1,070.
It is always a long day and VERY hard work at times, but no complaints were made. They willingly, cheerfully and without hesitation, fulfilled whatever task they were given and, throughout the day, remained polite and well presented. They were a real credit to the Squadron and to the ATC, and I trust that each of the above will receive extra points for their respective Flights as a bonus for their efforts.
Thank you all. It is such a privilege to be your Padre and, at times like the above, I am so proud of you.
May God bless you this Christmas and throughout the New Year.
