Long Eaton Air Cadets remember at Victory in Japan parade

Article posted: Aug 20, 2015 by Sqn Ldr Wilson

August 15th was officially declared as Victory in Japan day by US President Harry S Truman. This commemoration of the end of the Second World War is not as widely celebrated in the UK as other remembrance days such as D-day.

Nevertheless 2195 (Long Eaton) Squadron ATC made sure that the air cadets were present to commemorate the historic event. Flight Sergeant (ATC) Theyers, Cadet Warrant Officer Rebecca Parr, Cadet Sergeant James Bland and Cadet Corporal Emi Ephraim all attended the parade with a Sergeant Bland carrying the Squadron Banner.

Sergeant Bland said “It was my first time carrying the banner on a parade, I was really nervous but I felt so proud to be carrying it on the 70th anniversary of VJ day.” Cadet Warrant Officer Parr said “Coming to the end of my tenure as a cadet events such as this fill me with pride, they reaffirm my reason of joining and staying in the ATC.”
