Long Eaton Air Cadets Collect for Wings Week
Flight Sergeant Bailey Wright accepts a donation from a passer by at the Long Eaton War Memorial
Air Cadets from Long Eaton gave up their Saturday to help the Erewash Branch, Royal Air force Association (RAFA), in their Wings Week Appeal Street Collection in the Town.
The Air Cadets from 2195 (Long Eaton) Squadron of the Air Training Corps, have a long history of supporting this worthwhile charity and compete with other squadrons in the Erewash area to see who can raise the most money.
Wings Week remembers “The Few” who, with skill, courage and sacrifice took part in what became known as The Battle of Britain, a battle that proved pivotal for air supremacy over Britain during the dark days of World War II.
“I think it is right that we of the younger generation remember the past and the sacrifice of these pilots. It is also important that we help those of the Royal Air Force that need it. Giving up a Saturday is nothing compared to what some of these people have given up” said Cadet Flight Sergeant Bailey Wright.
The street collection in the Town will help the RAFA continue their work with ex Royal Air Force personnel of all generations who require help or care.
