Congratulations to Flight Sergeant (ATC) Dominic Chisholm of 858 (Rushden) Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets, who has been awarded the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service.
This is in recognition of his long commitment to voluntary service within the Air Training Corps and young people within the county and wider areas and especially his involvement within Wing level training teams.
Dominic joined the Air Training Corps back in 2000 at the age of 13. He joined 1101 (Kettering) Squadron and progressed through his cadet career gaining his Staff Cadet qualification, Gold Duke of Edinburgh, both flying and gliding scholarships. Progressing through the ranks and reaching Cadet Warrant Officer, Dominic went to University in Liverpool and joined 7F (1st City of Liverpool) Squadron.

Whilst at University Dominic furthered his skills and qualifications and gained his Weapons Instructor and Weapons Handling Test Conductor qualifications. Reaching the age of 20, Dominic continued his service as a civilian instructor at 7F and once he graduated from University, he returned home to Northamptonshire and re-joined 1101.
Dominic was promoted to Sergeant (ATC) in 2009 after successfully passing the Prospective Uniform Course with South and East Midlands Wing. Once appointed he moved to his current unit of 858 (Rushden) Squadron and has remained there since.
Dominic’s role at Rushden has developed over the years as he has gained more qualifications. He is responsible for the Weapons training, First Aid, Shooting, Drill, Discipline and Ceremonial. He has helped many cadets that have attended 858 gain qualifications in all of the above.
Along with his high commitment to his unit, Dominic has also been a key member of South and East Midlands Wing’s Cadet Development Team. Within the team he was tasked with providing a variety of training course for the cadets within the Wing notably the Initial NCO Course. Dominic assumed the role of the Principle Drill Instructor for the Initial NCO Course, delivering the Drill, Dress and Discipline aspects of the course.
The level of commitment that Dominic has and continues to show for his unit, the Wing and the wider Corps is why he has been duly awarded the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service.
