1084 (Market Harborough) Sqn recently held its annual awards dinner, with guest of honour Gp Capt Jon Ford, Regional Commandant – Central & East.
The traditional meal of fish and chips followed the format of a dining in night with CWO Lauren Bickley acting as PMC for the evening. She thanked Gp Capt Ford for all the work he had put into the Corps and the support he had given the Squadron in that time and wished him well in his forthcoming retirement.
Flt Lt Valerie Smith summarised the year’s performance highlighting the new activities of first aid and radio which resulted in over a dozen first aid and radio certificates being gained during the year.

The band had been busy as usual with Belgium and Royal International Air Tattoo being prominent. The Battle of Britain Ball at the Sergeants Mess at RAF Wittering showed the bands professionalism when not a head moved as a Spitfire made a very low flypast while they were playing. The band represented the Region at the Corps Band Championships, but their hopes of a repeat of their 2003 victory were dashed and they finished well down the order.
She paid tribute to Cdt Sgt Rob Edwards and Cdt Cpl Sophie Weston who had both been awarded their Triple Wing Blue for representing the Wing at three different sports.
Gp Capt Ford praised the squadron and staff: “The squadron rightly enjoys a fine reputation within the Wing, Region and notably the Corps.” He then went on to present awards to the cadets including the Cadet of the Year Cdt Kirstin Dagley (15) from Fleckney.
