Over the Bank Holiday weekend Air Cadets from 209 (West Bridgford) Squadron provided assistance to the Friends of Stapleford Miniature Railway at their annual Bank Holiday Open Day.

The miniature 1/5th scale railway is 2 miles long and has a fleet of British, East African and American scaled down replicas of stream trains and diesel locomotives.

Over the three day event the Cadets parked over 2000 cars and ran a PR tent. However the highlight of the weekend for all the Cadets (and Staff) was getting to drive some mini tanks which were part of the additional entertainment at the Open Day. Cadet Beth Dodd (15) said of driving the mini tanks, “it was a bit challenging at first but it was the best experience ever because I’ve never driven a tank before. I know it was very small but it was still a tank to me!”
