Mission C504 Squadron : Exercise Impulse Star 2 Success

Article posted: Nov 23, 2014 by Flt Lt Rayson-Flynn

Over the weekend of 26th to 28th September 8 Cadet NCOs, Potential NCOs and 4 staff took part in Exercise Impulse Star, a second leadership exercise involving orienteering, kayaking, raft building, 10 pin bowling and fieldcraft exercises.

Based at RAF Wittering the team used Ferry Meadows in Peterborough for the orienteering and watersports activities. While several cadets found themselves in the water during kayaking the staff team managed to avoid such indignities until ambushed by cadets during the raft building!.

10 pin bowling at AMF Bowling Peterborough saw the greater experience of the staff team tell, but the event was enjoyed by all.

The two cadet teams battled through the weekend with the team led by Cadet Sergeant Yorke winning through in the end.

Fieldcraft exercise including bivouac building took place at RAF Wittering’s Vigo Wood, a Harrier dispersal area from the cold war era.

Thanks are definitely due to RAF Wittering, 1359 (Beeston) Squadron for the loan of the minibus and to the staff at Ferry Meadows.
