September 09 saw another team of cadets from No. 138 squadron deliver a programme of lessons and activities to the first Gedling Scout group.
Cadets undertook this task as their project work and gave lessons in the following subjects- Aircraft recognition, airfield safety, principles of flight, aircraft daily inspections, navigation, fitness for flying, emergency procedures, and the parachute.
The project finished at the Buckminster Gliding club, Saltby Airfield near Grantham where most of the lessons were given.
All of the scouts participating took a flight in a two-seat glider via a winch launch. Many of the scouts were a little nervous prior to the flight-but it was big smiles all round in the end.
Seven scouts achieved their aviation skills and aeronautics badges. Well done lads.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the team of cadets for their enthusiasm and professional manner in which the project was delivered.
Corporal Cottee stated that it was a very interesting project and I have learned so much in preparing these lessons.
