As part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award preparations eleven Air Cadets from 209 (West Bridgford) Squadron completed a 9 mile navigation exercise around Bradgate Park near Loughborough, Leicestershire. The walk, which also took in the Swithland Reservoir, introduced the Cadets to using a map and compass in a real environment as opposed to in a classroom.

Each Cadet was given a chance to use their new skills and lead the group along a part of the walk which lasted all day.

While on the walk the Cadets were invited onto the Mount Sorrel Railway restoration site. They were shown around by Steve Cramp, the Project Co-ordinator who showed them the work in progress and explained the aim of the project which is to rebuild the industrial steam line and link it to the Great Central Railway.
