Eleven new recruits have successfully completed their training and have been enrolled onto the books of 1359 (Beeston) Squadron of the Air Training Corps. At the passing out parade, held on March 10th, the cadets, aged between 13 and 16, were presented with certificates and their 3822’s, the record of service book held by all members of the ATC.

The cadets had been under the expert tutelage of CWO Marie Grant who had taught subjects such as the history of the RAF, the ATC organisation, drill, dress and discipline. Now that these cadets have been enrolled they will be able to take part in all ATC activities, they will be taking their weapons handling test on Sunday 15th March and their first cadet camp has been scheduled to take place in a couple of months time.

Parents, relatives, carers and friends of the new cadets were present at the event and were treated to a display by the squadrons newly formed continuity drill team. OC 1359 (Beeston) Squadron, Flt Lt Phil Bannister VR (T), gave a talk to those present giving them an insight into the ATC organisation and what these young people can expect to get involved in over the coming years. The chair of the Civilian Committee, Ann Middleton, also spoke about their role on the squadron and invited anyone interested to attend their next meeting, she obviously did a good job as two parents expressed an interest in getting involved! Other members of the committee were on hand to provide refreshments during the evening.
