The South & East Midland Wing’s Spring Camp at the Swynnerton Training Area received a visit from Group Captain Brett Morrell, the recently appointed Central & East Region Commandant and Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, John Blather.

Also in the party of distinguished visitors were Wing Commander Phil Giles, RAFVR (T) Rtd in his role as Chairman of Derbyshire Reserve Forces & Cadets Association (RFCA) and other members of RFCA.
The party were treated to a somewhat damp tour of the Training area to observe the cadets getting to grips with the arduous Day Exercise Phase of the week long camp.
Colonel (Rtd) Mike Cheetham, one of the more senior members of the RFCA party, was not satisfied with just watching the cadets attempting the “River Crossing”, much to the amazement of the cadets and the consternation of the staff, Mike decided to throw caution to the wind and went, unaided, across the rope in style.

Throughout the tour, the party commented on the high moral among the cadets on such a damp day and also paid tribute to the effort and enthusiasm shown by all the staff.
