Air Cadets from 1936 (Newton) Squadron led the commencement of the period of Remembrance by taking part in the selling of The First Poppy on the Embankment of the River Trent.

Traditionally, the selling of The First Poppy marks the beginning of the period of remembrance and for the general sale of Poppies on behalf of the Royal British Legion. Funds raised from this campaign go to assist current and ex service personnel and their families.

There were numerous dignitaries from various organisations present, such as; the Mayors of Rushcliffe and Nottingham, the High Sherriff of Nottingham and the Assistant Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police.

Cadet Warrant Officer Thomas Dodge, who is the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for Nottinghamshire said, “It was an honour to be part of the launch of the 2013 RBL poppy appeal. As we approach the centenary of the First World War, it becomes even more relevant to remember and support all those who have served, and continue to do so.”
