Newton Cadets Climb To Success

Article posted: Oct 13, 2012 by Sqn Ldr Pass

For the past couple of weeks 1936 (Newton) Squadron has had the pleasure of having the South and East Midlands Wing Climbing Wall on CST (Core Syllabus Training) nights to mix up the program a bit so as not to have class room lectures all night.

Everyone from cadets to staff members were given the chance to have a climb up the wall. Even the squadron’s long time Civilian Instructor: Ken Turner:

Making his own way to Heaven

And the boss, she couldn’t get out of it that easily, although she tried!

Sqn Ldr Pass was the supervising staff member of the climbing wall so without his commitment the cadets would not have had this opportunity nor ever gained confidence to scale the wall.

Once the cadets had gotten familiar with the climbing wall they were pitted against each other in timed races and knock-out competitions. I was personally knocked out in the first round by Cdt Emily Winning.

Overall I would like to say a very big thank you to Sqn Ldr Andy Pass for giving up his time to supervise the climbing wall. Without him the cadets would not have had this opportunity. I’m sure every cadet has enjoyed having a go on the wall.
