Article posted: Jul 21, 2014 by Sqn Ldr Pass

During 2nd – 9th October 2014, the Treasurer of the 1936 (Newton) Squadron Air Training Corps Civilian Committee, is to do a Women v Cancer charity bike ride.

Colleen Rothwell and countless other from around the United Kingdom will cycle 400KM around the Caribbean island of Cuba.
Funds raised by Women V Cancer will be divided equally between three important charities: Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action and used to support their valuable work. Women v Cancer are also supporting cancer care in Cuba; £50 of the funds raised will be added to a donation from Action for Charity and used to fund a project helping women fight cancer in Cuba.

Colleen has been training for 5 months and starting to up the miles! The team aim to be cycling between 40-60 miles per day. Mrs Rothwell said, “My motivation [for doing the ride] was having lost family, friends and colleagues to these cancers. I decided to do my bit and hope to raise £3000. My Just Giving page is open for donations until the end of August.”

I’m sure everyone throughout the Wing will join the sentiments of all Squadron and Civilian Committee staff at 1936 (Newton) by wishing her all the best!
