Newton Receives a Visit from the RAF Regiment

Article posted: Aug 22, 2012 by Sqn Ldr Pass

One of the Cadets favourite events this year happened on 30th July 2012, when Flt Lt Ben Hewitt RAF and his colleague gave a lecture on RAF Regiment activities in Afghanistan and showed the Cadets the sort of equipment used.

There was a fascinating PowerPoint and video presentation for the first half of parade, but this was followed by a hands on experience of the kit which the RAF Regiment handle on a day to day basis.

This varied from trying on the armour, helmet and night vision equipment that is worn (and weight quite a few kilograms), through the sort of weaponry that is carried by the average airman, and on up to a look at the type of mortars that protect the troops in Afghanistan.
