At a recent 1461 Sqn parade, around 30 parents met with the Officer in Charge and Civilian Committee, to hear the successes of 2009 and the plan for 2010. A number of parents have volunteered their services as either full committee members or “friends of 1461”. These parents are on hand to offer occasional support such as transporting kit to up coming camps. A new initiative was launched on the night, parent mail. The idea is to ensure that the parents are aware of events coming up and all parents that sign up will receive a quarterly newsletter, detailing the opportunities available that often slip the minds of most cadets! The night was also used to launch the new clothing range.

The new range incorporates the newly designed sqn crest, designed by cadet Stephanie Hardy, depicting a tigers head. The clothing was received well with plenty of orders in on the night. Finally a collection was held to raise money for the new sqn mascot. “Rocky” is a tiger that is in the care of the born free foundation in Africa, and enough money was raised to support Rocky for a year. Fg Off Tim Hargraves, OiC 1461 Sqn said “This has been a very productive night. It’s been great to meet some of the parents of our cadets and it’s fantastic that so many have been able to offer their support. I’m really pleased that for the new year, 1461 is creating itself a new image, it really gives the cadets something proud to be part of.”
