PARENTS VIEW NEW LONG EATON CADET HEADQUARTERS

Parents of Long Eaton’s Air Cadets were invited to view the new £400,000 Cadet Centre recently opened on the site of the old squadron Headquarters.

Officer Commanding 2195 (Long Eaton) Squadron, Flight Lieutenant Jack Stepanian RAFVR, gave an introductory talk on the new building and how the state of the art training facility will enhance the squadron’s ability to provide structured and relevant training to the cadets in the years to come.

Senior cadets, themselves instructors, gave talks on their particular specialisation such as First Aid, Principles of Flight, and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. Examples were given as to how the subjects taught can provide cadets with the prospect of additional, nationally recognised, qualifications.

To underscore this point, certificates were awarded to cadets who had qualified in Radio Communication, Navigation and swimming. It is hoped that with the facilities in the new building, an award from the National Lottery and local fundraising, the cadets of Long Eaton can look forward to a busy, challenging and successful 2014.
