Prom in the Park

On Saturday 1st September Rushden District Council held the annual Proms in the Park at Rushden Hall Park.

This year was a little different as the cadets from 858 (Rushden) Squadron were to perform a continuity drill display.

The challenge was laid down by Councillor Marian Holloman, the Mayor of Rushden, at the squadron’s annual dining in night in July. Sergeant (ATC) Dominic Chisholm accepted this challenge being a confident Drill Instructor he knew he could devise a cunning plan and have the more than capable cadets pull off a fantastic display.

Hours of practice were put in and the cadets gave 100 % effort and commitment to the cause.

On the day the drill display was executed with precision and the highest degree of professionalism. Sergeant (ATC) Chisholm said “I couldn’t be any more proud of the cadets, they put in so much effort and they deserve the rapturous applause that they received as we marched off.”

Councillor Marian Holloman also commented “The drill was excellent and I would like to thank the squadron for taking part.”

Once the display was over and the cadets then engaged themselves in the fund raising activities for the council, a former Regimental Sergeant Major from the Green Jackets Brigade approached Sergeant Chisholm and proclaimed “That was fantastic, what those kids achieved tonight was in my eyes outstanding!”. This was the cherry on top for all the cadets

in the drill squad as they were almost speechless after receiving that praise and words such as “unbelievable” and “awesome” were banded about for the remainder of the night.
Councillor Holloman was so pleased with the display she has set Rushden Squadron a new challenge, to create a new and more complex sequence for the Party in the Park event next summer. This challenge was accepted with great pleasure by the drill team, so it’s back to the drawing board!
