On Wednesday 31st October 2012, whilst many young people were out trick or treating, one cadet from 1F(City of Leicester) squadron was invested into the role of the Lord Lieutenants Cadet of Leicestershire at County Hall in Glenfield.
Cadet Flight Sergeant Molly Henson, 16, has been part of the Corps for almost 4 years, joining in 2009 and has completed many courses and camps in that time. She is the most senior cadet NCO on her Squadron and has many roles including NCO IC Training Flight, NCOIC Shooting, SNCO IC and Drum Major of the Squadron Band. The Lord Lieutenant has three cadets each year nominated by the Sea Cadets Corps, the Army Cadet Force, and the Air Training Corps. Cadets are nominated for their outstanding contribution to their respective cadets units.
Molly is currently studying her AS Levels at Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College in Leicester and when asked to comment about receiving the award, Molly said ‘I was highly surprised yet thrilled when I received the news that I would be the next Lord Lieutenant Cadet of Leicestershire. It is something that I have aspired to achieve for a long time which made the celebration that little bit more special. I look forward to the coming year very much and it is a true honor to represent the county in such a prestige and special role.’
Flight Sergeant Henson’s Commanding Officer had this to say ‘I had no hesitation in recommending Cadet Flight Sergeant Molly Henson for this position as I am highly confident that she will carry out her duties as a Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet with enthusiasm and confidence, and will be a credit to the squadron, Wing and Corps.’
‘Lord Lieutenants cadets receive their badges from the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Jennifer Lady Gretton.
Molly will support Lady Gretton on special occasions such as Royal Visits, Remembrance Sunday, and the County Service for the coming year along with the other two cadets from the two other cadet forces.
