On a bright but brisk Sunday morning, 30 cadets and staff from 1359 (Beeston) Sqn, Royal Air Force Air Cadets paraded with the men and women of 170 (Infra Sup) Group Royal Engineer and many other Cadet and youth organisations to carry out the act of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in Beeston.

Three cadet SNCO’s from the Sqn were given the privilege of carrying banners on parade, Sgt Joe Mitchell, Sgt Sophie Gibson and Sgt Sarah Wally proudly paraded the Union Flag, the British Legion banner and the 1359 (Beeston) Sqn banner.

1359’s newest recruits, who were not advanced enough in their training to take a full part in the parade, were still involved acting as escorts to the many veterans and members of the public who turned out in force to show their respect for friends and comrades who had made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of this nation.

Following the act of remembrance and the two minutes silence the cadets attended the local church service and then proudly marched through the streets to the Royal British Legion where the parade was fell out and the cadets had the opportunity to mix with both serving soldiers and veterans and share a warm cup of soup.

WO (ATC) Gary Tinsley, Squadron Warrant Officer commented “It was an excellent turnout from 1359’s cadets. Their appearance and drill was to the highest standard and demonstrated their willingness to uphold the high standards and traditions of Armistice Day.”
