Engaging with the Public
At a Reserve Forces & Cadets Association (RFCA) organised Royal Air Force (RAF) Engagement Evening, the Wing was offered a platform from which to inform the General Public what the Air Cadets are all about.
Hosted by Loughborough Grammar School, South & East Midlands Wing joined with other elements of both the Regular and Reserve RAF to give presentations and display their work to interested people from around the Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Rutland area.
The RAF Presentation Team opened the proceedings with their polished and interesting overview of the roles and functions of the modern Air Force.
Flt Lt Jack Stepanian gives the talk
The difficult task of following that befell Flight Lieutenant Jack Stepanian, Officer Commanding 2195 (Long Eaton) Squadron. Speaking for around twenty minutes, Jack outlined what the Air Cadets were about, what the benefits are for both cadets and staff and also where we sit within the community.
Presentations that followed were from the Royal Auxillary Air Force, University Air Squadron and Sabre, the body within MOD that helps and supports the Reservist Employers.
Civilian Instructor Mike Hill and cadets from Beeston and Derby manned the Cadet’s stall which attracted significant interest.
Said Wing Media and Communication Officer, Flt lt Allan Munns ; “it was a worthwhile exercise and it was generous of RFCA to ask us as part of the greater RAF Family. I think we showed how important our role is within the Family and that we have a bright and challenging future”
