Two Cross Country records were smashed on a cold November morning as cadets from South and East Midlands Wing assembled at a bleak school playing field in Melton Mowbray to contest the coveted Cross Country Cup.

Yet again the might of No 126 (City of Derby) squadron proved too much and they ran out clear winners of the overall event but with second placed No 1359 (Beeston) squadron close behind. 1211 (Swadlincote) Squadron took the third place. This is the second year these three squadrons have filled the top three places.

Class winners were;

Boys 126 (City of Derby)

Youths 126 (City of Derby) & 2070 (Glenfield) (Tie)

Junior Men 126 (City of Derby)

Girls 1211(Swadlincote)

Junior Women 126 (City of Derby)

Wing Commander Nigel Dickinson, Officer Commanding South & East Midlands Wing, presented the trophies and congratulated those who took part. The Wing Commander also took the opportunity to present Cadet Corporal Charlotte
Wilkinson-Burnett with the trophy for the Best Female Sporting Cadet of the Year in the wing. Charlotte won her class again this year having already represented the Wing, Region and Corps at cross country last season.

Wing Commander Dickinson said “again we have a strong and competitive team and have a very good chance of becoming Regional Champions” He went on to thank all those who took part and the staff who marshalled the event.
