On Wednesday 22 June 2011, the Central & East Region Commandant, Group Captain Morrell visited 2071 (Stamford) Squadron.
Welcomed by Sqn Commander Flt Lt Helen Gibson, Group Captain Morrell discussed various topics including recruitment, annual competitions, and what other activities the Squadron offers to the cadets and staff. During the evening the Group Captain also had the opportunity to meet with members of the squadron Civilian Committee, where future fund raising opportunities were highlighted. Group Captain Morrell then thanked the committee for their continued support to the Squadron.
After refreshments, the Group Captain met with cadets in the squadron parade room where he ‘took questions from the floor’ advising the cadets and staff on the future of the organisation and the importance of our core activities such as flying & gliding.
Before departing the squadron, the Regional Commandant met with a number of the squadron staff to discuss career opportunities and their individual aspirations. He paid particular thanks to Sgt (ATC) Hannah Coates who was recently presented with an Air Officer Commanding Air Cadets Commendation for her commitment, dedication and efforts during a challenging year for 2071 Squadron back in 2010.
Sgt (ATC) Coates said “I had never met the Regional Commandant before, so this was a great opportunity for the staff, cadets and civilian committee to host the visit. What was encouraging was the fact that we carried on with our normal squadron working parade night, without any fuss or formality which allowed the preparations for Wing Field Day 2011 to continue. It was nice to receive the Group Captain’s thanks and the chance to discuss my AOC commendation with him”.
