Running to Victory

Sunday 7th December saw South & East Midlands Wing go up against the other 5 Wings in the Region for the Cross Country Championships.

It was a bitterly cold morning, but thankfully all the team and their supporters turned up at RAFC Cranwell for the Competition.

The route itself had to be changed on the day due to some of the course being too muddy and slippery, but this didn’t deter any of the Wing team putting in their best effort.

The competition got underway with the Junior Girls starting the competition and the Junior Boys finishing off the day. All 5 classes put in a magnificent effort with all 4 ‘Youths’ coming in the top 6 runners in their class.

Every single runner in the wing put in 100% effort and it was nice to see some old and new faces taking part, as well as the usual comradeship that is always seen with the wing team.

Finally at the end of the day the Results were announced and all the team and supporters were delighted to pick up 4 out of the 6 trophies as follows:

1st in Youths
1st in Junior Men
1st in Junior Women

The Boys team finished 4th overall, and the Girls team finished 2nd overall, which all added to the 30 points victory from 2nd place ‘Trent’.

Team Manager CI C Harrison commented that ‘it was an outstanding effort given by all the cadets and I am extremely proud of each and every one of them. They are a credit to their squadrons and the wing’

Wing Commander Dickinson – Officer Commanding South & East Midlands Wing added ‘I am very proud of what you have all achieved today, and I cannot remember a time when we had a result as good as this. It just goes to show that when we put our strongest team forward we are a force to be reckoned with’
