Recently cadets from 2248 (Rutland) Sqn visited RAF Scampton at the personal invitation of their Squadron President, AVM Gary Waterfall CBE, AOC 1 Group RAF.

The visit started with a presentation on the Red Arrows by Flt Lt’s Emmet Cox and Stew Campbell, Reds 5 & 8 of the world famous aerobatic team. The Cadets were then given a guided tour of the RAF Scampton Heritage Centre which includes the only Air Training Corps museum in the country and displays dedicated to 617 Sqn, the Dam Busters who were based at Scampton during WW2.

Whilst visiting the office of the Dam Busters famous OC, Wg Cdr Guy Gibson VC, cadets posed for photo’s sitting in his chair, with a replica of his equally famous dog at their feet. The tour also included the opportunity to see two Lancaster bomber cockpits and a Sedbergh T21 glider, formally used by 643 VGS when they were based at Scampton.

Cdt Lewis Morgan said “We had a great day at RAF Scampton but the best part was actually being able to talk to the Red Arrow pilots and ask them questions.”
