With their heads held high, the Cadets of South & East Midlands Wing applauded Bedfordshire & Cambridgeshire Wing after they narrowly beat them into second place at the Regional Field Day.
The Ensemble from 209 took a First.
A warm but blustery day saw the six wing teams from Central & East Region hotly contest all disciplines that make up the competition day. Under the watchful and appreciative eye of the Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Dawn Macafferty and the Region’s Commandant, Group Captain Geoff Hewett RAFVR, the wing teams battled throughout the day for the ultimate crown of the Best Wing in the Region.
Before the Presentations and Final parade, the Commandant had a chat to the assembeled cadets and staff then invited question that the Commandant and Group captain hewett answered.
Presentation of the Trophies and certificates by the Commandant added that special touch for the winners. Although South & East Midlands took a good share of “firsts”, noticeably in Band and First Aid, Beds & Cambs showed a consistency of second and third places, which, at the end of the day, proved decisive in winning the coveted Overall Winners’ Trophy.
The Wing Team
Officer Commanding South & East Midlands Wing, Wing Commander Nigel Dickinson, expressed his pride in the Wing Team. “You have all worked tremendously hard for this day and you can all be proud of what you have achieved. I am proud to be your Wing Commander and see no reason to feel too disappointed with the result”. The Wing Commander also took the opportunity to thank all the staff who had contributed to the day.
