2418 National Navigation Awards Scheme (NNAS) Walk
On the 24th of November a group cadets from 2418 (Sherwood) Squadron went on a NNAS walk near Bestwood Country Park.
The five mile walk consisted of taking bearings, reading off a map and using compasses, navigational skills required under the scheme. Each cadet took turns at leading the others putting into practice the skills they had been taught proving they could take a bearing and decide which way to lead the party.
After the walk every cadet that participated was confident with taking bearings and using their maps skills. “Personally, I am much more confident with doing them now as before I wouldn’t have thought I would have been able to even do a bearing. We learnt more about hand railing, triangulation and ways to tell which way is north. Actually doing this rather than being taught about it from pen to paper was much more understandable and has helped me learn how to do them more accurately. I am glad I participated in doing this walk as it has helped me thoroughly understand” said Cadet Boulter
