South & East Midlands Wing have celebrated their achievement as the top BTEC Wing in the Region (and third in the Corps). Over 50 cadets have now gained BTEC First Diplomas in Public Services – a vocational qualification equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades A* to C.
CVQO Director Lt Col Edward Woods and Regional Commandant Gp Capt Jon Ford presented Diplomas to 17 cadets at a special ceremony in Leicester, which was also attended by staff from all over the Wing and CVQO Operations Manager and Regional Training Officer Wg Cdr Steve Mills in his “dual” role.
Lt Col Woods congratulated the Wing on its success and paid special tribute to Sqn Ldr Andy Flynn, the Wing Vocational Qualifications Officer and staff on the Squadrons who have supported their cadets. Lt Col Woods said: “The Air Cadets I have met this evening are amongst the finest young people I have ever had the pleasure to meet”.
9 cadets from 126 (City of Derby) Sqn, one of the largest units in the ATC, were present with their VQ Officer, Mrs Lisa Marshall. Other Sqns represented were: 5F (Northampton), 1101 (Kettering), 2070 (Glenfield), 2229 (Loughborough) and 2502 (Hamilton). Other presentations will take place at those units who were unable to be present.
