South & East Midlands Wing Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year were presented with their Trophies by Wing Commander Nigel Dickinson, Officer Commanding the Wing after the Inter Squadron swimming Competition.

The Sportswoman of the Year went to a remarkable young cadet who, in her first year in the Corps, has already gained a Wing Triple Blue in Cross Country, Athletics, Netball and Hockey. She has also gone on the represent both the Region and Corps twice. Cadet Pippa Ball (14) of 1084 (Market Harborough) Squadron has not finished yet, she broke two Wing swimming records for Junior Girls at the Inter Squadron Competition and will go on to represent the Wing at the Inter Wing swimming competition.

The Sportsman of the year was presented to Cadet Flight Sergeant Whitehead (17), a cadet from 348 (Ilkeston) Squadron. FS Whitehead has been around for several years and has a triple blue for Rugby, Football and Hockey. He has been a constant member of the Wing rugby Team over many seasons and participates in all sports. For the example he sets for the effort he always puts in, FS Whitehead is an inspiration to his squadron and the wing.

“The choices have been extremely difficult this year with so many cadets excelling in sport. The wing is so lucky to have this pool of talent readily available to keep South and East midlands wing at the front in all sporting competition” said Flight lieutenant Lynda Waplington, the Wing’s Sports Officer.
