Cadet Warrant Officer Liam Osbiston(18) of 1360 (Stapleford & Sandiacre) Squadron has been awarded the Sportsman of the Year Trophy for outstanding sporting achievement within South & East Midlands Wing.

Such is the strength of the Wing’s sportsmen, there were three cadets in this very close run award. Liam was selected, not only for his performance over the last year, but for his commitment to his Squadron, Wing and Region over the last six years.

For the past five years, Liam has competed at Wing Level at Football and currently assists with the coaching of the wing Football team. During the same period he has been competitive at Wing level in athletics. For six years he has represented the Wing at Cross Country.

Wing Commander Nigel Dickinson, Officer Commanding South & East Midlands Wing was unfortunately unable to present Liam with the Trophy on the occasion of the Wing’s Swimming Competition as Liam was engaged on his final phase of gaining his Basic Expedition Leaders (BEL) Award.

“Liam has narrowly missed this accolade on a couple of occasions, this year he made it and it is richly deserved” said Wing Sports Officer Flight Lieutenant Lynda Wapling
