Air cadets from Stapleford have beaten off strong opposition to become the best banner Team in the Midlands.

Held at RAF Wittering, this annual competition determines the best Banner Party in South & East Midlands Wing, a collection of 29 Squadrons within the Midlands. The Stapleford cadets from 1360 (Stapleford & Sandiacre) Squadron, Air Training Corps narrowly beat last years’ champions and rivals, 1359 (Beeston) squadron.

The squadron Banner (Flag), is uncased, paraded and used following a strict format laid down within Air Cadet manuals and those selected to carry the banner have to be turned out to meet extremely high standards.

The Team of cadets was led by Cadet Warrant Officer Jess Kment (19) with Cadet Sergeant Liam Osbiston (15) being the banner bearer. Escort was provided by Cadet Sergeant Tom Barber (16) and Cadet Corporal Kane Hatfield (14). Banner orderly was Cadet Ruth Terry (15)

“It was hard work with all the practices but the team worked well together and in the end it was worth it to walk away with the trophy” said Jess.
