For the eight year in succession, cadets from No 1360 (Stapleford & Sandiacre) Squadron, Air Training Corps, have helped in the success of the Elvaston Steam Rally.

Through heavy showers and hot sunshine, the cadets cheerfully carried out the many tasks that were requested of them. Wearing the now familiar purple squadron tee shirts the cadets worked with the event organisers to ensure the safety of the crowds, assist with getting the arena events to and from the arena on time and picking up the mountains of litter.

Senior cadets began arriving at the site on the Wednesday before the weekend event and helped with setting up the site ready for the exhibitors and general public’s arrival. The remainder of the cadets arrived on the Friday evening ready for an early start on the Saturday Morning.

The squadron’s committee and friends of the squadron were responsible for controlling all the pedestrian entrances collecting the entrance fee and issuing the tickets. For them it is many hours spent standing on the gates, an onerous but essential task.

The event organisers, stall holders and exhibitors praised the cadets, one stall holder commented “ the boys and girls worked so hard during the long days and were always smiling, polite and disciplined, they are a credit to the squadron” .
