Twelve more youngsters have become enrolled members of Stapleford’s largest youth organisation during a Passing Out Parade at the Ilkeston Road Headquarters of 1360 (Stapleford & Sandiacre) Sqn.

After a thirteen week course of training, the twelve young men and women were inducted into the Corps during a ceremony attended by over thirty parents, relatives and distinguished guests.

The new cadets had received instruction in such diverse subjects as First Aid, operating radios, navigation and map reading as well as practical field craft and camping skills. They have also been taught about the Royal Air Force and about aircraft and flying. All the training culminated in the award of their First Class Cadet badge, the first rung on the ladder to the award of a BTEC qualification in Aviation Studies.

Among the guests was the Mayor of Stapleford, Councillor Jackie Williams who expressed her disappointment that this would be her last opportunity to attend the squadron as she approaches the end of her year of office. “I am proud to be associated with such well disciplined, smart and polite youngsters who are a credit to the Town, the squadron and their parents” said Cllr Williams. Squadron Commander, Flt Lt Allan Munns, said: “That there would always be a warm welcome for Cllr Williams at the squadron”.

Cdt Sgt Anthony Bell was presented with a Gold Medal for being in the top fifteen best skiers during his recent skiing trip to Germany. The trip was organised by the Air Training Corps and the week long course was attended by 120 cadets from all over the United Kingdom. Anthony had never been on Skiing making his achievement even more remarkable.

Other presentations were also made during the evening. Cdt Warrant Officer Ashley Rudd and Cdt Cpl Jade Brock were awarded ‘Wing Blues’ for Cross Country and five members of the squadron were awarded certificates for competing in the Nottinghamshire County Council’s Night navigation Exercise, Shadow.
