The Royal Air Force 1211 (Swadlincote) Air Training Corps Squadron hosted its ‘best ever’ open day last weekend, drawing in over a thousand members of the public.
Entertainments provided on the day included a display by the award winning Squadron band, a continuity drill march and passing-out parade, pioneering and leadership demonstrations, first aid and CasEvac exercises, a professional AWACs combat and commercial flight simulator, numerous have-a-go stalls and activities, and visits from external agencies including a Royal Air Force flypast and a Derbyshire Fire Service emergency appliance.
Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Alyn Thompson RAFVR, reflected: “This year’s open day was our best ever; our entertainments were of the highest standards and we hosted almost one thousand guests. Our one hundred Cadets and twenty Staff conducted themselves expertly, guiding guests around our Squadron, answering questions and running the stalls and activities – the whole day went without a hitch. I would like to extend particular thanks to the Chair of South Derbyshire District Council, Councillor Michael Bale, for joining us on the day.”
