A team of six Cadets and four Staff from the 1211 (Swadlincote) Air Training Corps Squadron were invited by the Royal British Legion to attend the recent Battle of Britain Parade in London, in recognition of the Squadron’s significant efforts in aid of the charity over the last few years.
The team were the only members of the Royal Air Force’s Air Cadet Organisation to be invited from outside of the London area, making this visit particularly special. The parade, with attendees numbering in the thousands, was honoured by the presence of HRH Prince Charles.
During the visit the team visited Westminster Abbey, the Battle of Britain Memorial and Number 10 Downing Street. They also met the newly appointed Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty.
Officer in Charge, Flight Lieutenant Ruth Morgan RAFVR, summarised: “We feel very privileged to have received these tickets to attend this important parade. We have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will endeavour to return with a larger group in the near future.”
