Seven swimming records were broken at the South and East Midlands Wing inter Squadron swimming championships held at the Beechdale Baths in Nottingham.
In a day of tough competition, No 126 (City of Derby) Squadron proved too strong for the for the smaller squadrons taking the overall trophy by a massive 88 points. An excellent second place was achieved by No 1188 (Coalville) Squadron with only 45 points.

The Derby squadron didn’t have it all their own way with 1947 (Birstall) Squadron taking the Junior Boys title and Coalville Squadron taking the Senior Boys trophy. Both girl classes were taken by Derby, most squadrons being unable to field full female teams.
Of the seven records broken, three were broken by cadets for Coalville and three by Derby cadets. The seventh record was broken by cadet Ianelli of 1(F) squadron.
Wing Commander Nigel Dickinson, Officer Commanding South & East Midlands Wing, thanked all the cadets for their effort on the day and expressed his feeling that “South & East Midlands wing will be a force to be reckoned with at the region championships in November”
