Branstons of Queniborough recently held a ‘Fun Day’ to celebrate of the opening of their newly refurbished Londis store and forecourt. Held over the weekend of the 13th – 14th February 2009, the garage offered entertainment for children with Balloon Modellers and Jugglers to entertain members of the public utilising the new facilities.

Cadets from 1181 (Syston) Squadron have been busy once again in the community, they were on hand to help aid the proceedings over both of the days. The cadets offered help to the employees of Branstons handing out goody bags, warm savoury snacks and also taking details for a free raffle for the chance of winning an iPod Touch.

The weekend was a great success and highly appreciated by the staff at Branstons. Officer Cadet Andy Houghton said: “We are always looking to get involved with local community events and this was an ideal opportunity to work with one of our local businesses as well as promoting the squadrons growing reputation and encouraging possible new recruits”.

As a result of the weekends activities, 1181 Squadron are hoping to build on this new relationship with staff at the garage – especially Mr Charles Masters (Manager) who was once himself a Flight Sergeant in the Air Cadets.

The group are currently recruiting cadets, both male and female, aged 13-17. Anyone interested in joining can come along to the headquarters on Parkstone Road, Syston (behind Wreake Valley College) on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7.00 pm to 9.30 pm or contact them on 0116 260 3948.
