For the tenth year in succession, 126 (City of Derby) Squadron have been crowned South & East Midlands Wing’s swimming champions.

The steamy heat of Beechdale Swimming Centre, Nottingham, was matched by the fierce heat of competition in the water as the Derby cadets had stiff competition from across the wing, winning only one of the four classes.

In second place, twenty two points behind Derby were the cadets of 1947 (Birstall) squadron and just nine points behind them was 1211 (Swadlincote) Squadron.

Four records were broken on the day, Cadet Molly Henson, 1(F) City of Liecester, Junior Girls Breast stroke, Cadet Corporal Pippa Ball, 1084 (Market Harborough) , Senior Girls Breast Stroke, Cadet Corporal Alex Chapman, 2195 (Long Eaton), Junior Boys Freestyle, and Cadet Flight Sergeant Nathalie Sigston of 1211 (Swadlincote).

The winners of the classes in this competition will go on to represent the Wing at the Region competition at RAF Cranwell. Wing Commander Nigel Dickinson, on presenting the trophies said; “as long as we field full teams, there is no reason why the Wing couldn’t take home the Region’s silverware given the Wing’s cadets drive, enthusiasm and will to win”
