ATC Sergeant Sarah Middleton of 209 (West Bridgford) Sqn joined Flt Lt Jodi Hudson of 1936 (Newton) Sqn and AWO Martin Bates from 2418 (Sherwood) as the South and East Midlands Wing staff contingent at the Central and East Region Camp to JHQ Rheindahlen, Germany.

The first day of the camp was spent learning how to handle the new L98 A2 which for Sarah and most of the Cadets was a new experience. The Camp also visited a World War Two German Military Cemetery which had over 38000 graves. Sarah described this as ”very touching to all the Staff and Cadets”.

Away from Rheindahlen the Camp visited the US Air Force Base at Spandahlen where they had a tour around Air Traffic Control and saw F16 Fighting Falcons and A10 Thunderbolts at close quarters. Sarah said “everything on the base was on a huge scale and a great experience to visit”.

Cadets in Action

When not on visits the Cadets and Staff went to an indoor go-karting track where one of the Cadets broke the week’s track record. They also got to chill out in an outdoor swimming pool which was always followed by pizza and chips.

The camp ended with a BBQ and disco which Sarah described as “amazing” followed by the awards of Best Flight and Cadet from the Camp Commandant and the Paper Plate Awards from the CWO.

Disco Time

Of the week Sarah Said “going to Rheindahlen was a great experience. I enjoyed meeting Staff from the Region and having the opportunity to visit different places”.
