Air Cadets of South and East Midlands Wing battled hard but were unable to prevent 126 (City of Derby) Squadron gaining their 12th successive victory in the Wing’s Athletics Championship.

In the twelth year since the formation of South and East Midlands Wing, the cadets from the Derby Squadron secured the overall winners trophy during the inter squadron athletics meeting held at Saffron Lane Sports Centre in Leicester.

However, Derby did not have it all their own way and were pushed hard by stiff competition from 1359 (Beeston) Squadron who were determined to release Derby’s grip on the trophy.

Third place was taken by 1211 (Swadlincote) Squadron.

The Victor Lodorum, for the male cadet who was most successful on the day, was Cadet Courtney Williams from 378 (Mannock) Squadron winning the 100m, 200m and shot put.

Cadet Sian Lloyd-Mclear of No 1947 (Birstall) Squadron with success in 100m, 200 and Long Jump, was declared the Victrix Lodorum for Best female cadet.

The trophies were presented to the victors by Kath Dickinson, wife of the Wing’s Commanding Officer, Nigel Dickinson, who closed the proceedings with a warning to the other Wings in the Region that “ with a full team from those selected today, South and East Midlands Wing will be hard to beat”.
