An Air Cadet from 378(Mannock) Squadron Air Training Corps, based in Wellingborough, recently attended his investiture as the next Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for Northamptonshire. Cadet Flight Sergeant Macauley Tinston will be following directly in the footsteps of his brother Mitchell, who held the same post for the previous year.
Macauley (18) of Wellingborough was selected from amongst hundreds of his cadet colleagues for this hotly contested honour and will spend the next twelve months providing a ceremonial escort to the Lord Lieutenant, Mr David Laing.
During the ceremony, held at Northamptonshire’s County Hall, Macauley, along with his Army and Sea cadet counterparts, was invited to speak to the assembled audience of dignitaries and family members about his experiences as an air cadet.
Describing the recent appointment as being one of the highlights of his cadet experience, Macauley was praised by his Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant William Kellock, who said: “Flight Sergeant Tinston is a credit to our unit and his appointment to this post is a unique honour and a fantastic opportunity that he will take with him for years to come.”
378(Mannock) Squadron is part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets and is based at Spring Gardens in Wellingborough. The Squadron is currently recruiting new cadets from school year eight up to age 17 as well as volunteer adult staff.
